What does it mean to find fulfillment in your Faith & Work for Christian Leaders”>work? Calling is something that every Christian needs to discover from God, because God has designed you for His kingdom purposes. The best way to discover this is to understand that God genuinely cares about your work.
God’s Concern for Your Career
Many believers think God only cares about “spiritual” work—evangelism, church ministry, or direct service. But Scripture tells us that God cares about everything we do. Whether you’re a CEO, architect, teacher, engineer, or nurse, your work matters to God.
Your supervisor, your team, your customers, your clients—they all matter to God. The way you treat them, the quality of your work, the integrity you bring—all of this is sacred. This is why your work isn’t just a job; it’s a calling.
Applying God’s Wisdom to Your Work
When we spend time with Jesus and learn from Him, we can ask Him at any time what to do and how to do it. If I were a CEO, for example, I could ask Jesus how He would run my company. If I were an architect, I could ask how I should approach designing a building. In whatever work we do, we can learn from Jesus.
The apostle Paul encourages us that we actually have the mind of Christ available to true followers of Jesus. “The spiritual man makes judgments about all things… we have the mind of Christ.” We can’t properly utilize this gift without the Holy Spirit controlling us.
Living an Integrated Life
Most of us have grown up compartmentalizing our lives—one life at home, another at work, another at church, another in our hobbies. But God wants us to live an undivided life, one that’s integrated in all its aspects. Life is one. It should be coherent, seamless, harmonious, continuous.
True fulfillment at work comes when you realize your job is a platform for serving God and others. When you find your calling and pursue it with faith, integrity, and God’s wisdom, you’ll discover a fulfillment that goes far beyond a paycheck.
